The Alexander Technique is an education process whereby students re-learn how to use their body with less tension and stress. We are born with perfect posture, and over the years we interfere with that good use. If we become aware of what we are doing 'wrong' we are then able to affect change. We need to profoundly change the way we use ourselves in order for us to be out of pain.
The beauty about the body is how quickly the body is able to change. After just a few Alexander technique lessons, students report a dramatic change in their well being.
Lack of concentration, irritability, general fatigue, back and neck pain, headaches, tense shoulders and general malaise can all be related to poor posture.
Even poor eyesight and eyesight deterioration can be directly related to our sedentary life style and the invent of computers.
Back pain, neck pain, stiff shoulders and repetitive strain injury (RSI) are all greatly assisted by The Alexander Technique.
Many jobs demand that we sit for long periods of time. Many people don't know that the first place the body experiences fatigue is the spine. This is why so many people collapse at their desks. They feel they cannot hold themselves up after a certain number of hours.
Improvement in back pain can be achieved within a very short time of starting Alexander Technique lessons.
Back Pain?
If there have been many back operations then progress may be a bit slower. If you are planning to have an operation, it may be wise to try out the Alexander technique first. In my 20 or more years experience I have encountered a number of people who no longer required surgery after learning this technique. However, there were those who did go for back surgery but still found that their recovery was far quicker once they adopted all the Alexander principals they had learnt.
Alexander technique lessons are usually one on one and the first lesson is usually one hour. The following lessons are usually between half and hour to forty five minutes. I also offer lunchtime talks at companies to staff. I offer workshops to staff and management. I also can assess work stations and give tips on small improvements to the work station that can quickly assist staff.
